On the day of the official start of the games, each tribute is moved into their own waiting room with their partner from the same district. Your prep team will hand you a school bag filled with miscellaneous items and they will also clasp a bracelet around your dominant hand and a similar anklet around the opposite ankle.

[For people who have watched Battle Royale or know the fandom, you will recognize what this is. It's just on a different part of the body. Your tributes will not be told what this is. These devices cannot be removed and they also serve as trackers and monitors to track health levels and locations.]

Your prep team will give each tribute a hug and some warm words of encouragement (or a slap on the back for you manly folk) and then you will be moved into your relevant entry tube. Time will count down slowly but one by one, the tributes will be moved into the arena and announced on TV for the viewers at home. The tributes have been advised that if they step off their starting point prior to the official start of the game, their platform will explode. Do not move until you have been advised that you can.

Each tribute gets one of these cute school bags.

Inside, you will find the following:
1 small bottle of water
1 map of the arena (below)
1 defective compass (it is up to you how you want it to be defective. (Eg. Points you in circles, walks you in a random straight line and then changes direction after a certain distance. Is just plain broken. Makes funny sounds when you shake it etc)
1 day's supply of dry rations - such as jerky or the equivalent your character likes.
A pencil case with a permanent marker, child safety blunt scissors, a small plastic ruler, a pencil and an eraser.

The following tributes will have a bonus item:  [personal profile] bakegarasu  [personal profile] grapeeater  [personal profile] marimohead  [personal profile] 2wei  [personal profile] tornaway  [personal profile] blood_lust [personal profile] replacementaliengoldfish  [personal profile] no_dreams_for_you  [personal profile] 50_shades_of_blue [personal profile] 99purroblems
Bonus - 1 jar of elixir cream that is 1x use only. This cream will instantly heal any wound that you apply to it no matter how large the wound is and how fatal it should have been. As soon as it is applied once, the entire jar will disappear.

There will be no other explanation attached with the map. This is exactly what the tributes are getting. There is a N point on the map but the compass doesn't work. Oh wait, the tributes don't know that either. Good luck.

The tributes all start an equal distance from the cornucopia which is right in the middle of the grey area. They are in a semi circle with district 1 members being on the bottom left corner of square H8 and District 12 being in the top right of square G10.

The following information is for OOC use only and only comes into play when your tributes encounter them in game:
  • The fruits in A8 are edible fruits. There is a wide range from apples and oranges to mangoes. Everything your character would want. However, to get there they must navigate past 3 packs of wolves or try to traverse over a very bustling river.
  • The Lighthouse in C10 has a secret stash of grenades (x10) on the top level.
  • You are welcome to come up with whatever you want in the forest/lake/sand areas. Please comment into the info post when your character encounters anything really amazing so I can update this post with the square and information. Then everyone else can also suffer.
  • Cornucopia - This is where you will find 6 weeks worth of food (the food will stay fresh for that long) and water. There is enough to feed all 12 districts of tributes. Are you guys going to share? Behind the mountain of food is where all the weapons are. There is a large stash of guns, swords, knives, enough to arm the amount of people in the arena with 1 type of weapon each. Amongst the weapons there are also fandom specific items that your character wishes they had from home. If you want it, you'll have to fight for it. Asides from that, there is also a small range of electronic devices (1x actual working compass) and a range of items that can be used to set traps. (eg. tripwires, long range bomb detonators etc).
  • The water in the lakes and streams coming down from the mountain are drinkable.
  • In the beach area on the line of I3 and I4 there is 1 buried treasure. This treasure chest includes 3 bottles of water and 3 days worth of food rations.
  • In the shelter B6, there is medical equipment. Bandages, antiseptic creams etc. This is one medical kit in 3x separate rooms in the shelter, carefully hidden away.
  • It will take a tribute roughly half an hour to get through each square. Since the map is quite small, your character can essentially tag into any thread. It would help if you mark top levels where the tribute is for easy tracking.
  • The arena is surrounded by an invisible forcefield that will bounce back items that you throw at it.
Game Updates
As your character picks up any items from the above list, I'll remove them and add them to the list here. First come first served. The items will go to whoever comments on the mod top level below. Please comment linking to the thread when your character picks up the item.

Twist 1 - Announced 23 July 2016 - 24 Hour Battle
Twist 2 - Announced 6 Aug 2016 - A little noise disturbance
Twist 3 - Announced 20 August 2016 - Phoenix
Twist 4 - Announced 3 September  2016 - Musical Bracelets
Twist 5 - Announced 17 September 2016 - TBA
There will be no further twists so Arena Post for Twist 5 will remain in play until end of round.

And with that...there is a loud gunshot...

The games begin.
May the odds be ever in your favor.

[note: gifts will be updated and revealed on this list as they are given to the tributes in the arena. This will also be updated again once the media results are in so you will know ooc how many surprise sponsorships will come through in the first 2 weeks of the arena log going up.

People with missing icons will have these icons updated in a week when the arena opens. I'm waiting on either opt in/opt out or time out of the home sweet home log to finalize tribute ranks and gifts.]

[note: IC this is officially the night before the tributes enter the arena. OOC this is posted a week before the arena post to allow people time to opt in.]

Hello viewers!

And welcome to our moment with the tributes! We have been following the tributes very closely while they train hard for this round. We've installed cameras in places that they would never expect. And with a bit of luck, they'll open up and let us know their little secrets when they join us on stage in just one moment!

[Please use the mod top level below to opt in with the interview. You are welcome to just answer the questions or write create a response in character. You are welcome to use the host guy as an NPC as you wish. Opting in and answering the questions gives you a dice roll chance of a second sponsorship gift in the first 2 weeks of the arena from a viewer sponsor. This is entirely optional. For all other interactions, please create your own top levels as you please.]

Interview
[You are welcome to either just answer the questions as posed in an IC comment or you can use the host to back and forth as an NPC. Whichever you feel most comfortable with. If your character comes into the interview, they are welcome to storm off at any time and your roll chance will still be counted but they cannot hurt the host or any of the audience in any way. If your character amicably answers all the questions, then leaves, they have a 3/6 dice roll chance of winning sponsorship. If they storm off at any point, this decreases to 1/6. Questions can be answered in any order.

Please note that if you have not participated in the pre-arena, then you won't have anything filled in the chart below. Please make up your own interview if you wish to participate.]

Welcome to the stage. I hope you've been treated well with our top class facilities.
Please, take a seat. Our viewers will love to get to know you.

1] Please tell us a little bit about your home world.
2] Tell us a little about your family or friends still back at home. Do you think they'll be watching this show? Anything you'd like to say to them?
[In the chart below will be the song used for the tribute entrance. Your tribute can be wearing something that represents themselves and their home world for this interview. There will also be tribute specific questions below as well as links to the relevant CR.]

[note: the tributes will be watching each other's interviews]

Otherwise, we may need to convert these tributes to NPCs. THANK YOU]

Backstage
The interview is over, you're no longer required by your prep team so you are welcome to mingle around in the backstage area with the other tributes if you so wish.  This area is made up of a few private rooms and one large mingle room.

The private rooms consist of a single couch and a desk with a mirror.

The large mingle room consists of multiple large couches, a few single couches and a large table filled with treats.

Dorm Rooms

This will be your last night in the dorm rooms so enjoy the facilities to the best of your ability. Your school uniform outfit will be laid out ready for you to change into in the morning. The prep team will visit you for one last look over before you head out into the arena. Your arena supplies will only be given to you in the arena waiting room.

Training Arena
The training arena has officially closed but the tributes are welcome to use the facility one last time before they are headed off to the arena.

At 8 in the morning after the first week of training, a projection is made onto the wall opposite each tribute's bed and a crisp image can be seen. She talks with an interesting accent and her voice is way too chipper for that time in the morning but she has something important to tell everyone.

I hope that all of you have been training hard and resting up for the big event that is to be coming up shortly! As you all should know... soon, we will be announcing tribute rankings to the public. These ranks should be very important to each of you as they may very well decide your your chances of survival in the arena. Our sponsors will only support the highly ranked tributes after all!

Below, you will see the initial tribute rankings. These are only made available to yourselves based on your current activity thus far. The game makers would like to see all of you in action one more time and give you one more chance to improve your score!

Each tribute will now find a small monitor the size of a standard mobile phone beside their bed. There is a note that they are welcome to keep this on them at all times. When the right time comes, the monitor will beep and show another tribute's name. They can then either select "yes" to watch that tribute or "no"  to dismiss and go back to what they were doing. Whether they elect to watch the other tribute or not will have no impact on their own scores.

[Opt in Scenario]

Each tribute will have a designated time during the day that their prep team will lead them to a special room. The tribute will be told that in that room there is something special for them from home and they can choose to go in or they can walk away. If they choose to walk away, they don't have a second chance to come back later. Astute tributes will notice a plaque on the door with the letters "VR".  As soon as any tribute walks in, all the other tributes have the chance to watch on their own monitors the outcome of the scenario.

(If there is no comment below for the tribute by the 24th, we'll assume the tribute has opted out).

If you choose to opt in then the following occurs:
As you walk into the room, you will find yourself back in your home world in your favourite place. This can be anywhere, such as your home or your favourite restaurant or beach etc. The room is able to generate anything. You venture further and you find yourself facing somebody special from home. Somebody that you miss or somebody that you have one last thing that you have to say to them before you enter the arena. If that special person is somebody that came with you to the arena, they can still appear in this room.

You try to speak to them but they don't respond. You try again...and then you realize that there is something strange about this person.

A moment later, you find that the other person has now picked up a weapon from close by. This is a non projectile weapon, a sword or knife that they would physically need to come near you to fight with. In your hand, you now find yourself holding a gun.

What will be your decision?

There are three outcomes for this opt in:

Outcome 1 - They offensively take the holographic image's life.
As you have given up everything in order to win the arena, you will be given a bonus item in your backpack when you enter. This will be a very unique and special item that may save your life. You will also be given a small box containing something special from home that will be in your possession only until just before you enter the arena.
There will be an RNG of [4-6] added to your final tribute score.

Outcome 2
- They defensively take the holographic image's life.
You don't mean to, but to save your own life, you shoot. Since you do have a sense of self preservation and a deep down desire to win the arena, you will be given a bonus item in your backpack when you enter the arena. This will be the same item as outcome 1 but you will not be given the special gift from home.
There will be an RNG of [1-3] added to your final tribute score.

Outcome 3 - They are unable to bring themselves to do anything and end up taking a fatal blow from the holographic image.
Since this is all virtual reality, nothing bad happens to the tribute. The worst that will happen is the fear from seeing a weapon being plunged into their bodies. The image then fades and all that's left is a box containing a treasure from home. They will have this treasure until just before entering the arena.
There will be an RNG of [1-3] deducted from your final tribute score.

Tributes who don't participate will have an RNG  of [1-3] deducted from the final tribute score for not performing for the game masters.

[To opt in, please reply to the mod top level below in regards to which outcome in the subject line. If you would like, you can also write up exactly what happens in the VR room.  Having this written up can help with more CR dev if you want to thread reactions etc but is not a requirement for opt in.

Please create your own top levels for CR and interactions as to what happens once a tribute leaves their own VR  experience. These top levels can occur anywhere in the pre-arena facility and can also be in the VR area if you would like.]

Hello Players

This may be important with the arena opening up soon with the events that are going to take place so if people can please comment below with permissions posts if your character has special powers which may or may not affect other players.

Things such as body switching, physically looking like other tributes, mind control, power stealing etc.

Then other players will be able to opt in/out and plot appropriately.

If your tribute is just a normal human with nothing special or if you have special powers that won't be affecting other tributes, you are free to skip over this and just use this post to check out what the other characters can potentially do.

And this is said over and over again but sometimes people forget, specially in an intense game like this so...friendly reminder:

IC =/= OOC

Introduction
There was a drum roll and as you entered into this world. You are surrounded by cheering crowds, bright lights and cameras. You have just been announced as a tribute for a specific district and this begins your adventure into the Games Arena.

There is a lot to do before the Arena opens. The audience must be informed of all your vital stats so they can place their bets. Are you going to win because you're the strongest? Are you going to win because you're sneaky and smart? You won't see any of that however. The next few weeks are going to be filled with the following:

[Please thread below in any or all of the locations. It would help if the subject of the top level comment could list where the tribute is just so it makes it easier for other characters to tag in.]

Training Arena
There is everything that you could ever need in the training area. There are teachers around 24/7 who will be more than happy to teach you the skills needed in the Arena.

Such as: hunting, wilderness survival, tying knots, camouflage, botany, weapons use, general fitness experts and anything else you believe may be required.

It might save your life to go to at least one of these tutorials. There are also gyms and equipment which will help you focus on specific skills such as climbing, swimming and anything you may think of.

In this Training Arena, you will have access to any weapons your character may have back home in canon. They will only be available in the training arena so you must leave them behind when you leave here and when you make your way to the arena.

There are also public and private training facilities so you can choose whether you want to show everyone your skills or hide everything until the arena stage.

Rule: Any tributes that physically attack each other before entering the arena will be punished upon the games beginning. This is announced to the tributes as they are released to their own devices.

Publicity Shoots
It is up to your prep team to make sure the public love you. That's what they get paid for. As Battle Royale is school themed, you will be taking lots of school based photo shoots in the following uniform:

Look familiar? Well, in this game it doesn't matter whether you're in the white or black uniform so take your pick at whatever you think will look nicer. These will be the uniforms that you enter the arena in. This may be your last chance to look pretty and your last chance to be remembered.

Private Dorms
At the end of each day, you have your own room to retire back to. Each district has an entire floor to themselves and each floor has two giant dorm rooms.

There is room service for each dorm room and you can order whatever you want. Really, anything. You're about to go to your death so you might as well enjoy the remainder of your life. You are free to go to each other's rooms if you want to visit. Make friends, make enemies, or scout out your competition.

These rooms are state of the art. You have a large shower where it feels like the water is coming from multiple directions and a range of fancy soaps, shampoos etc. You can even choose to have a bubble bath if you want.  The bed is large and covered with the blankets and sheets your character most adores. There is also a giant wardrobe with any outfit you would like to wear available at a touch of a button.

Each tribute will also have 2 avoxes following them around when they are in the private dorm area to get them whatever they need and clean up after them.

Private Social Area
There is a living space with games, other hobbies and an eatery for people who don't want to eat in the solitude of their dorms. But why aren't you in the training hall trying to make sure you stay alive in the arena? This is where you'll find out the gossip of where you are, what's going on. You can speak to your prep team to learn about why you're here, what your role is and the fact that you're probably going to be dead in a month. And probably at the hands of the person eating at the next table and smiling innocently at you.

Other
You are welcome to create anywhere else you want to be. Want to watch a movie? Go ahead. Want to visit a library? Yeah sure. The Game Creation team have designed a little city for you to play in before you enter the Arena so if you are certain that an extra day in the training facility won't make you live much longer anyway? Might as well go out and enjoy yourself. It's on me.

Note: Wherever you are or whatever you're doing, there is a chance that your actions will probably get broadcasted to the public on TV.

For people that are canon blind, the tributes are all assessed prior to entering the arena and there are scores announced on TV as to how the game makers think the tributes will fare in the arena. In canon, the tributes  are given the score based on their performance in a private show in front of the game makers.

The scores are ranked from 1 - 12.
1 being you are horrible and will probably die as soon as you step in to 12 being you may possibly win.

This is to assist with sponsorship (you want to be the one sponsoring the winner obviously) and for viewers to place bets.

For the purposes of this game, the score will be assigned via RNG.

So that nobody has to use their sponsorship chance during the first 2 weeks (where there are no twists and possibly no deaths?) the tribute score will randomly assign a prize that will be given within those first 2 weeks. However, you can use it if you really want to.

Please note as sponsorship gifts are assigned by OOC players, you can use them up until the final round even if your game tribute dies in the first week.

Your tribute score will assign you one of the following prizes:

Score
1 - 2: Jewellery or another fan provided prize. This may seem like a dud but tributes may get some interesting results with a bit of creativity.
3 - 4: Something from home. It's nice but probably not useful and may hinder you because it may make you homesick.
5 - 6: Survival item - eg matches, rope, small flash light, duct tape
7 - 8: Food and water
9 - 10: Small weapon
11 - 12: medical supplies

The prize will be given to you at a random time (within the first two weeks). That is, one of your threads will be hijacked by the mod account leaving you a comment to say you have a gift from a sponsor.

Theme : Battle Royale (that's all the information you're getting right now, arena maps, more explanations will come in later posts.)
Premise: This is canon character history. This means that your character is literally being dragged out of their canon to participate in this game. This can be due to various reasons. Such as "mysteriously dragged in" or "saw their friend be mysteriously dragged in and came in after them" down to "saw mysterious entryway and walked in of their own accord". Anything that you want to happen to your character to end up in this mess.

Please note this means that your character comes with all powers in tact (please play wisely and don't go too crazy to be fair to other players. Not fair if you come in and just kill everybody with meteor). They also only come with whatever they have on their body at the time they arrive. (Which does mean that if the mysterious forces drag your character in while they're taking a shower...they will appear on stage naked and may need to find clothes).

(This does mean that future games will be different, such as AU with characters growing up in the HG world etc)

How the game will start: This info is for your open tag/post for when I put up the first IC log. Every district will announce their players on stage in front of all of the cameras one at a time. As you are announced, that is when you will be dragged in/walk in from your characters current world. This means a variety of introductions, whether your character is surprised, scared, naked etc. Anything you want as long as you are happy for the entire world to see them that way.

FAQ

Updated as we go. Post any questions in the below and I'll add the answers here.

Game Premise
This comm wasn't created to be a full game. People can tag into a round and play to their hearts content and the disappear and come back to tag in a future round where they think the theme sounds interesting. The game is based on the Hunger Games books but won't delve into the actual politics/background of the story. There won't be a rebellion uprising etc. This is focused solely around characters being forced into the arena for the entertainment of the people.

Activity Check
There is none. Tag into the roll call of the round that is currently open while the game is running. You can tag in until the Arena log is posted. Once that is up, please wait until the next round begins. A date will be announced when the current Arena log starts winding down.

You are welcome to tag in, post three tags and then kill off your character if that's what you want to do but what's the fun in that?

Applications
Again, there is none. This isn't a community that I want to run with lots of little aspects. This is basically created so people can hop in, tag in and play. What you'll need to do is, when the roll call post goes up for a round, tag into that. I'll add you to the roster and off you go. All you need is a character, a fandom, a way for players to contact you and a character journal. You don't have to join the comm if you don't want to.

At this point play with as many characters as you want but if people really find this interesting, I may need to apply limits later. One can only hope people like this comm?

How long will a round go for?
I'm going to leave this one up to the players. When a round feels like it's about to play out or people are starting to lose interest, players can either decide on a mutual winner and work towards that end or I will gather up all the final players and RNG a winner. Then we work towards that. When a round is nearing its end, I will start posting up the roll call and other details for the next round.

Each Arena round I'm aiming to have 5 twists which will be unveiled 1 week apart. If the game ends before week 5, I'll just reveal them all as a "this is what could have happened". If the game goes further than week 5 with a substantial amount of people still alive, there won't be more twists but I might start repeating them (if they were once off events).

Or leave it open to the players as to whether they would like to RNG towards a winner or have further twists.

Can I find out more about the theme?
Nope. All you get are the key words linked on the rounds post until the theme is formally announced. You are welcome to wait until the explanation post is up before you tag in if you really want but isn't it fun to wait and see what unveils? Also, the arena changes during the course of the round if the characters are not dying taking it too easy. During the course of the round, I'll edit the original post with more information about how the arena will change around the characters.

Example, areas may blow up, dangerous animals may be released etc.

Game Mechanics

Roll Call
First point is to tag into the roll call post with the information required. The roll call post will be open until 1 week before the Arena post goes up (this is when the NPC post will be put up and final slots filled)

Pre Games
This is where initial CR will be made. Tributes will have a few weeks of training up their skills, meeting other tributes and going on press/media meets.

Tribute Announcement

1 week prior to the Arena being opened up, an announcement will be made showing the rankings of the tributes according to their activity  in the Pre Games. This won't have any effect on the game itself.

If there are any unfilled tribute slots, this is where players can add NPCs. Players don't need to play the NPCs but they can be moved around freely and picked up to be killed by anybody who wishes to draw first blood.(If all tribute slots are taken, there will be no NPCs)

Arena
The first Arena post will run for 2 weeks to let the tributes get used to rushing around and getting used to the map and mechanics. To make things easy, IC = OOC for time.

Then there will be a twist post and 1 twist post every 2 weeks after that. Twists only run for a few days out of each two week period so it's easier to keep them in their own logs. Backtagging is allowed forever so there is no urgency to finish all of your threads in a week.

Deaths
Prior to the end of each week, leave a comment back in the Sponsorship post if your character is going to die. This can be done even if you haven't started the thread where they actually die yet. This is more to keep things more easily laid out and people know who is left to target.

When we are down to 3 - 5 players (depending on player activity) I will RNG a winner or the remaining players can get together and decide on a winner if they can be amicable about it. That will be the last week of the round.

I will then post up a victory post. The roll call for the next round will be made at the start of the final week to allow people to tag in early for the next round.

You are welcome to keep CR from round to round if you want or start with a blank slate. It's what you agree to do with the other players. The rules are really free here.

Sponsorship
There are two ways that sponsorship will work in the arena.

1) Every player gets 1 chance to send a gift item to a character still living in the game. The 1 gift restriction applies regardless of how many characters you have in the game so use this wisely. You cannot send the gift to your own character, this must be sent to somebody else.

How sponsorship worked in HG is explained here.

In the Games Arena the gift comes to you in the form of a small floating chest that can only be opened by the person the gift is designated for. Once the gift is retrieved, the chest returns back to the Gamemaker headquarters ready for the next delivery. This means the gift must be small enough to fit into a shoebox.

OOC: this will work by a comment to the character during any thread. Sometimes the box may come to you at a good time, sometimes the box may interrupt something you're doing.

2) There will be media posts made via plurk and on the community. On these posts, link to threads that you've done with in game characters and talk about them. This will be much like if you were watching the game at home and then chatting in forums etc as to who's going to win or who you're concerned about.

When there is enough chatter or interest about a character (good or bad chatter), there will be an RNG and a sponsorship drop for them. To keep things fair, each character will only have 1 sponsorship drop per twist and only 1 during the first 2 week Arena post.

There won't be a hard and fast rule but generally when there's been about 3 - 5 comments or responses going back and forth about a character or a group of characters, they will win a drop. It won't be difficult and is more so that everyone is able to see what the other characters are doing and will have the chance to draw attention back to their own characters.

The sponsorship item will be decided by a dice roll and will get 1 out of the following:
1) Food and water
2) Small weapon
3) medical supplies
4) Jewellery or another fan provided prize. This may seem like a dud but tributes may get some interesting results with a bit of creativity.
5) Survival item - eg matches, rope, small flash light, duct tape
6) Something from home

For the first 2 weeks of arena, there will be an additional sponsorship price. That is explained in a separate post here.
